Rural Art

To be an artist and to paint
The gracious likeness of a saint,
To be an architect and plan
A church that's fit for God and man,
To write a sonnet that could calm
Some troubled heart like David's psalm --
These I would do; but not to me
God gives the talent for these three.
I paint with care my woodshed wall.
I built my hens a house last fall.
And from my plow these couplets crude
Go up to God in gratitude.
