Rainier, jet black in early dawn,
Looms tall, a giant funeral pyre.
Then night is routed, darkness gone;
The peaks erupt in streaming fire!

When noonday burns with brilliant sun,
Rainier is bright in old brocade
Of snow and ice the years have spun --
White lace on silk of dark blue shade.

Day dims, yet floods the west with flame;
The sunset rays that flare oblique
Near Mars' bright gleam in scarlet frame
Make molten pearl of the mountain peak.

Though day is dead, through moonlight art,
The lofty peak will soar serene.
Night shows to eager eye and heart
Rainier, a stately, blue-robed queen!
